As the demand for instantaneous social media increases, there’s a new perspective in town. Periscope and Meerkat are live streaming apps for the iPhone and Android that were launched within the last year. They make live streaming from the palm of your hand possible.

So, what’s the point?

The new apps have become the closest thing to teleportation. Other mobile broadcasting tools don’t feel live, but these apps allows users to directly connect to their audience. Is there a big event, press conference, or community rally you can’t make? No problem, Periscope and Meerkat have your back. Simply open your app to get the live experience.

As the buzz about the new ‘perspective’ continues, the question of it’s potential is brought to the surface. The live stream feature has a lot of recreational potential with music festivals or the big rivalry game, but it has even more potential use for business. The media and politicians have found great use for immediacy with the new tool. The media is always looking for innovative ways to deliver breaking news, and as elections stir, politicians are able to create a following through live stream. As for marketing and public relations, there is great exposure with live stream. Brands are now able to add a personal touch to the mix by sharing live events, hosting interviews, displaying products, sharing behind-the-scenes, hosting trainings and holding Q&As.

Although Periscope and Meerkat are still in the experimentation state, the apps’ potential is great. It will be an asset to many people and industries, and it will bring people from all walks of life together.
